H.E. Ambassador Mr. Yang Houlan Attends the Seminar on "Contribution of Bhrikuti towards Nepal-China Relationship"

On 16 July, 2012, Nepal Academy and Nepal-China Woman Friendship Society co-organized a seminar on "Contribution of Bhrikuti towards Nepal-China Relationship". H.E. Mr. Yang Houlan, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Mr. Bairagi Kainla, Chancellor of Nepal Academy, Mr. Ganga Prasad Upreti, Vice Chancellor of Nepal Academy, Ms. Purna Shova Chitrakar, Chairperson of Nepal-China Woman Friendship Society and experts, scholars from various universities of Nepal attended the seminar and gave remarks. 

 

The attendants reviewed the history of Nepalese Princess Bhrikuti marrying to China from their perspective of views, appreciated and analyzed the literature, songs and dramas that describing Bhrikuti. They regarded the Bhrikuti episode is a significant event in the history of Nepal. It was after the event that Nepal's relations with China entered into a new phase. Bhrikuti made important contribution to Nepal-China relations and was the daughter of both Nepalese and Chinese. The two peoples should inherit and develop Bhrikuti's commitment of promoting the Nepal-China friendship.

Yang highly appreciated Bhrikuti's significant contribution to Nepal-China relations. He said that China and Nepal has been close neighbor since ancient times. The friendly exchanges between Chinese and Nepalese, especially between the two women, have a long history. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Chinese women actively developed friendly exchanges with women and women's organizations in all countries including Nepal. This April, Ms. Chen Zhili, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress and President of the All-China Women's Federation, led Chinese women's delegation and paid a friendly visit to Nepal. He hoped that the women of the two countries to make joint efforts, to continue to make contributions to the development of China-Nepal friendship.
