Right Honorable Vice President of Nepal, Mr. Parmanand Jha,

Honorable Minister for Education Mr. Dinanath Sharma,

Honorable Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bista Magar,

Honorable Vice President of Hebei University of Economics & Business Prof. Dr. Shen Fuping,

Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,

Good afternoon!

I am very glad to attend the first performance in Kathmandu of 2012 Confucius Institute Grand Spring Festival Gala Nepal Tour Performance. Today is Chinese Lantern Festival. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, I would like to extend my best greetings to all of you and sincere thanks and appreciation to all the cast and crew of Hebei University of Economics &Business Art Troupe, as well as all those have made contributions to the Nepal Tour Performance.

At the beginning of this year, Premier Wen Jiabao paid a successful visit to Nepal. China and Nepal declared that the year 2012 is China-Nepal Friendly Exchanges Year. And Nepal has already officially launched 2012 Visit Lumbini Year. On February 3rd, 2012 Confucius Institute Grand Spring Festival Gala Nepal Tour Performance made its successful debut in Lumbini. That is the first performance given by Chinese Art Troupe outside the Kathmandu Valley. We can say that the cultural exchange between China and Nepal has made a good beginning in the new year.

Up to now, 358 Confucius Institutes and over 500 Confucius Classrooms have been established around the world. All of them have been playing an important role in promoting the cultural and educational exchanges and cooperation between China and other countries, serving as important ties and bridges in strengthening the understanding and friendship between China and other countries.

Five years ago, Hebei University of Economics & Business and Kathmandu University co-established Confucius Institute. Thanks to joint efforts made by both Chinese and Nepali sides, Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University (CIKU) has attracted more and more Chinese language learners in Nepal by its high quality teaching and colorful various academic and cultural activities. CIKU is universally acknowledged as the most important Chinese language teaching center and Chinese culture transmission institution by Nepali society and has won great popularity in Nepal.

With expansion and deepening of exchanges and cooperation between China and Nepal in various fields, more and more Nepali friends hope to learn Chinese language and to know more about China. I believe with the great support from relevant departments in China and all the Chinese teachers’ hard work and dedication in Nepal, Confucius Institute and Confucius Classrooms will become important bases for cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Nepal, instilling new vitality into Sino-Nepal friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Finally, I would like to once again extend my greetings to everybody here. May all of you have an auspicious Year of Dragon and wish the Nepal Tour Performance of Hebei University of Economics &Business Art Troupe a complete success!
