China Festival 2003, organized by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal and World Cultural Net, was held from 1-7 of September, 2003 at Birendra International Convention Center in Kathmandu, the Kingdom of Nepal. The festival covered a varieties of programs including: Acrobatics Show, Photo Exhibition, Handicraft Exhibition, Film Festival, Book Fair, Food Festival, Kite Festival and Trade Fair. The festival attracted over 100,000 visitors in one week time, and was the biggest one of its kind held in Nepal since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Nepal in 1955.

China Festival 2003 Inaugurated in Kathmandu

 
  The event venue: Birendra International Convention Center, Kathmandu
     
  The sky was decorated with colorful kites during the festival.
     
  The Crown Prince Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev inaugurated the China Festival 2003 on Sep. 1 at the Birendra International Convention Center in Kathmandu. After the inauguration, he visited the Photo Exhibition along with the Prime Minister Surya Bahadur Thapa.
     
  The China Yunnan Acrobatic Troupe staged 12 performances in Kathmandu and Pokhara. The troupe demonstrated the traditional Chinese acrobatics with a new elements of modern dance and pop music.

  Rope Skipping. This boy is the youngest one among the acrobats in the troupe.
     
  The artists are tossing embroidery pouch to the audience. Tossing embroidery pouch which stands for luck is a tradition of the Bai ethnic group which dwells in Yunnan province in southwest China.
     
  Chinese Book Fair. The book fair was held by the China International Book Trading Corporation. Some 4,000 Chinese books, albums, periodicals were exhibited during the festival. The fair attracted many Nepali readers who were happy at reading these Chinese publications which were not available at the local market.
     
  Volunteers working at China Film Festival. 12 movies have been screened during the festival, which attracted a large audience.
     
  Over 10,000 students from different schools visited the festival.
