Xi Jinping Sends Congratulatory Message to Newly-elected President Emmanuel Macron of France

On May 8, 2017, President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to newly-elected President Emmanuel Macron of France.

Xi Jinping pointed out in the congratulatory message that France was the first major Western country to formally establish the diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. China-France relations are of important strategic significance and international influence, and have enjoyed a sustainable, healthy and stable development in recent years. As permanent members of the UN Security Council and major countries with important international influence, both China and France shoulder special and important responsibilities to world peace and development. Maintaining a healthy and stable development of bilateral relations not only benefits the two countries and the two people, but also is conducive to the world peace, stability and prosperity. China is willing to make joint efforts with France to constantly elevate the close and sustained bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to higher levels.
