President Arif Alvi of Pakistan Meets with Wang Yi

On September 8, 2019 local time, President Arif Alvi of Pakistan met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the President' Office in Islamabad.

Arif Alvi asked Wang Yi to convey his warm greetings to President Xi Jinping. Arif Alvi said, Pakistan views China as its most trustworthy iron friend, and sincerely thanks the Chinese side's long-term and strong support and unselfish assistance in various aspects. The Pakistani side hopes China will make new and constant progress in the process of national development and construction. Any attempt to isolate China and impede its development will meet opposition from the Pakistani side and will be doomed to failure. The Pakistani side expresses congratulations on the remarkable achievements the People's Republic of China has made over the past 70 years since its founding, and stands ready to learn China's development model and successful experience and speed up its own development through joint construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) with the Chinese side. The Pakistani side is willing to work with the Chinese side to deepen counter-terrorism cooperation, combat terrorist forces including the East Turkistan Islamic Movement and protect the safety of Chinese citizens and projects in Pakistan. The Pakistani side expresses gratitude for the Chinese side's understanding of and support for Pakistan on the international arena, and stands ready to strengthen strategic communication and notes-comparing on regional and international affairs with the Chinese side.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's sincere greetings to Arif Alvi. Wang Yi said, the China-Pakistan all-weather strategic cooperative partnership, under the guidance of the leaders of the two countries, has enjoyed strong momentum of development over the past year. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Pakistani side to forge a closer China-Pakistan community of shared future in the new era and build the CPEC into a demonstration project of high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative by deepening cooperation in various fields. The Chinese side will continuously advance the construction of the CPEC in the direction of industrial cooperation, improvement of people's livelihood and development of the western and other regions of Pakistan so as to promote the upgrading of the CPEC, help Pakistan accelerate the realization of industrialization and enhance the sense of fulfillment of the Pakistani people. Facing regional and international circumstances fraught with uncertainties, it is more significant for China and Pakistan to enhance strategic communication and coordination. The Chinese side appreciates Pakistan for firmly standing together with the Chinese side on issues concerning the Chinese side's core interests, including issues concerning Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang. We will also continue to staunchly support the Pakistani side in safeguarding national sovereignty, dignity and territorial integrity as well as its legitimate rights and interests.

During his visit to Pakistan, Wang Yi also held talks with Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chief of Army Staff Qamar Javed Bajwa of Pakistan respectively, and attended the third China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Trilateral Foreign Ministers' Dialogue.
