Xi Jinping Sends a Congratulatory Letter on the First Meeting of the China-Japan High-level Consultation Mechanism on People-to-people and Cultural Exchanges

On November 25, 2019, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan sent their respective letters of congratulations on the first meeting of the China-Japan high-level consultation mechanism on people-to-people and cultural exchanges held in Tokyo.

Xi Jinping pointed out, China and Japan are only separated by a strip of water, and enjoy profound historical and cultural connections. In the long-term exchanges lasting for more than 2,000 years, the two peoples have learned from each other, which has not only promoted our respective development, but also contributed to the progress of Asian civilizations. The world today is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. Therefore, human beings cannot cope with common challenges and move towards a better future without the power of culture. People from all over the world should grasp and follow the trend of the times and strengthen exchanges to jointly write a new chapter in human civilization.

Xi Jinping stressed, currently, China-Japan relations have been continuously improving. It is hoped that China and Japan will make good use of this mechanism to promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cement people-to-people bonds, so as to provide cultural support for the building and development of China-Japan relations that fit the needs of the new era.

Shinzo Abe said in his congratulatory letter, the Japan-China high-level consultation mechanism on people-to-people and cultural exchanges is the consensus reached during my meeting with President Xi Jinping in Osaka. The purpose is to deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples through extensive exchanges. It is hoped that the mechanism will lay a solid foundation of public opinion for both sides to build Japan-China relations that fit the needs of the new era and make contributions to opening up a new future of Japan-China relations.
